Care and Rehabilitation of the Persons affected with Leprosy

As a part of its integrated rehabilitation of persons affected with leprosy, Bombay Leprosy Project continued with its efforts to provide physical and economic rehabilitation to persons affected with leprosy and physically challenged individuals.

Under its disability care programme in urban areas, BLP has been providing aids and appliances to leprosy patients attending the Main Referral Centre and satellite clinics in the slums. Though most of the patients are managed with the routine services which includes aids and appliances like splints, simple footwear, dressing kits some patients need special modified footwear. The footwear need to be specially designed and molded based on the type of deformity of the foot and costs more than the conventional one.

BLP in collaboration with well wishers and donors arranged for the  special footwear for some patients. The donation also helped in supporting the costs of educational materials which was provided to a son of rehabilitated leprosy affected person working in BLP. The footwear was provided to a leprosy patient suffering from non healing ulcer due to a badly deformed foot.

We are thankful to all the donors and well wishers for their encouragement and support to help to reach out to such  leprosy patients.
