Mayor visits Bombay Leprosy Project

It was a great honor and privilege for Bombay Leprosy Project when Dr (Smt) Shubha Raul, Hon Mayor of Mumbai visited BLP on Friday, 10th July 2009.

She visited the Referral centre and expressed her concern for the cause of leprosy and also enquired about the services to leprosy patients. As BLP runs its Referral centre at its main office which is thronged by several patients the place is congested and therefore restricts the services to leprosy patients. The need for a small extension centre to enhance the scope of our services to many leprosy patients nearby the existing place was impressed upon the Mayor. The Mayor was explained about the evolution of treatment of leprosy as she enquired about the Chaulmoogra fruit. She appreciated the fact in spite of the decline in the magnitude of the problem the need to attend to the clinical problems and disability care in several leprosy patients is important to control the morbidity of the disease.
